If you've just bought your dream home in a beautiful leafy setting, then the idea of removing trees might seem horrific. Trees are certainly a valuable and welcome addition to a garden but not all trees are a wise choice to have in proximity to your home. Some are simply pesky and hard to maintain while others can actually make your home environment more dangerous. Here are three common tree varieties that you should consider removing from your new backyard.
1. Conifers
Conifers are a common tree in gardens across Australia. They're popular because they're fast growing and are often used to create hedges or privacy screens. Unfortunately, their rapid growth also comes with great height and width, and conifers can soon take over a large swath of your garden.
Their height means that they may block sunlight from other plants in your garden, and they aggressively compete for nutrients to the detriment of surrounding plants and trees. They also drop an abundance of needles during the autumn, which is time-consuming to clear away and can cause bare patches where they pile up on your lawn.
2. Gums
While it might seem like a lovely idea to have these large native trees in your garden, they're a significant safety hazard for two main reasons. Firstly, the large dense limbs can cause serious damage to people and property when they're blown down during storms. The highly resinous timber is also a big bushfire hazard, and gums can burn with red-hot coals that put your home at risk.
If you really don't want to remove your gum tree entirely, then it's vital that you have it properly pruned and cared for by a tree service contractor. They can trim the tree to keep large branches away from your home and remove any dead or dying limbs before they become dislodged and vulnerable to breaking off.
3. Liquidambars
Liquidambars are an undeniably beautiful tree, with large, luxurious leaves that turn a fiery and stunning red during autumn. They're also a tree that can reach enormous proportions, which is why they're most commonly found on farms or in municipal parks where there is plenty of room for their rapid and impressive growth.
However, as a backyard tree, these properties can make it less than ideal. A liquidambar will quickly dominate your garden, both above and below ground. They create strong, extensive and invasive root systems that can decimate underground plumbing, electrical cable conduits and even the foundations of your home if left to grow unchecked.

Hey! I'm Keith. Are you looking for tree removal advice? If so you have come to the right place. Last year, I needed some advice about how best to deal with the trees in my yard. One of the trees had started to lean and I was very worried about it. In order to deal with the problem, I called in a professional tree service and asked them to take a look at it. The contractor wasted no time and quickly removed the tree. I was really pleased with the level of service I received and I would like to encourage others to contact their local tree service.
